Notes from the SlutWalk Toronto 2017 Access Team!

Our Access Team was created by the community advisory committee planning SlutWalk 2017 to address issues of inclusion through access! Our Access Team will be on site throughout the event and are available to arrange supports for event goers! Below are a few measures the team has arranged in advance of the action.

1. ASL Interpretation and live transcription of speeches.

2. Priority seating/space at the front of each venue (Barbara Hall Park and Allen Gardens) for those who require seating, or are travelling with strollers or mobility devices.

3. Creating a scent free environment. We are encouraging a scent-free event. If you want to smoke or are wearing scents, we ask that you find space towards the back of the crowd.

4. Transportation during march. We have a van for those who would like to be part of the march but would like to be in a vehicle.

5. During the march, we invite those travelling with mobility devices, strollers, accessibility needs, scent/chemical sensitivities and families with young children be at the front of the march so that they can set the pace of the walk.

6. Decompression spaces. There will be a decompression space at Barbara Hall Park and Allan Gardens with active listeners, water and cool-down supplies if you’re in need of some downtime.

7. Trained Active listeners will be available during the march and will be wearing distinguishable markers.

8. Wheelchair accessible and all-gender washrooms. There is a wheelchair accessible and all-gender washrooms in the 519 Community Centre. There are wheelchair accessible washrooms at Allan Gardens in the Conservatory until 5pm.
